This explains, in plain terms, what information Herwritten collects when you visit the site or buy the journal, and what we do — and don't do — with it.

1. Who this policy covers

This Privacy Policy explains how Herwritten ("Herwritten," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you visit herwritten.com or purchase and use the Herwritten journal (the "Service").

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us directly:

Your name (used to personalize your journal — it's printed on the cover)
Your email address (used to deliver your personalized journal link, for order-related communication, and — if you sign up for a free scene or opt in after purchase — to send you occasional marketing emails about Herwritten and future products)
Payment information — handled entirely by our payment processor, Gumroad. We do not collect, see, or store your card details ourselves. Gumroad's own privacy policy governs how they handle that information.

Information collected automatically:

Basic site analytics via Google Analytics (pages visited, time on page, general location by region, device/browser type) — but only if you accept cookies through the banner shown on your first visit. If you decline, this data is not collected.

What we do not collect:

The actual contents of what you write in your journal. Your journal entries are saved to your own browser's local storage, on your own device — not to our servers. We do not have access to, and cannot read, what you write. If you use the in-journal export feature, that exported file is yours and stays on your device unless you choose to share it.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

Create and deliver your personalized journal (name and email)
Send you your journal link and any order-related communication (e.g., receipts, delivery confirmation)
Send you marketing emails about Herwritten and future products, but only if you've opted in — see Section 4 below
Respond to you if you email us with a question
Understand, in aggregate, how visitors use the site, so we can improve it

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your name or email with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

4. Marketing emails

If you sign up for a free scene, or check a box opting in after purchase, we'll send you marketing emails from Herwritten — things like new releases, updates, and offers related to Herwritten and future products. We only send these if you've opted in; we don't add you to marketing emails just because you bought the journal or gave us your email for order delivery.

Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. You can opt out at any time by clicking it, or by emailing us at herwritten@gmail.com. Opting out of marketing emails doesn't affect order-related communication (like receipts or delivery of a journal you've already purchased), which we send regardless.

If you're in the EU or UK, our legal basis for sending marketing emails is your consent, which you give by opting in. You can withdraw that consent at any time using the methods above, and doing so is as easy as giving it.

5. Third parties involved in the Service

Gumroad — processes your payment and may collect information as part of that transaction. See Gumroad's privacy policy at gumroad.com/privacy.
Brevo — used to deliver your personalized journal link, other order-related emails, and (if you've opted in) marketing emails. See Brevo's privacy policy at brevo.com/legal/privacypolicy.
Google Analytics — collects anonymized site-usage data, only if you accept cookies.

6. Cookies

We use cookies only for Google Analytics, and only if you click "Accept" on the cookie banner shown when you first visit the site. If you click "Decline," no analytics cookies are set. You can change your mind at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site, which will show the banner again on your next visit.

7. Data retention

We retain your name and email for as long as needed to fulfill your order and respond to any follow-up questions, and as required for our own business and tax records. If you've opted into marketing emails, we retain your email for that purpose until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Because your journal entries live in your own browser's local storage, we have no copy of them and cannot retain or delete them on your behalf — clearing your browser cache or switching devices without exporting first will remove that data permanently, which is why the export reminder exists.

8. Your rights

Depending on the data protection laws that apply to you where you live, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you (your name and email on file), and to withdraw consent to marketing emails at any time. To make a request, email us at herwritten@gmail.com.

If you're located in the EU/UK or California specifically, additional rights under GDPR or CCPA may also apply to you.

9. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to anyone under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above.
